Mongolian deer musk has always felt different to me.
Even when the grains are fresh, instead of the powerful animalic character I associate with many other deer musks, Mongolian musk has this beautiful medicinal, aromatic quality.
It is lighter, smoother and naturally more tamed.
It doesn’t have the force of some Siberian or Nepalese musk, but that is exactly what makes it interesting. You can introduce real musk into a composition without bringing too much animalic character with it.
I especially love using Mongolian musk with rose. There is something about its clean, medicinal aroma and the softness of rose that works beautifully together.
For me, Mongolian musk isn’t about power.
It is about smoothness, aroma and restraint.
