Ghalia Ward

There are combinations in perfumery that never really need to be reinvented.

Oud and rose is one of them.

Ghalia Ward was created around that relationship.

I used several different roses, including Bulgarian, Indian, Turkish, Iranian and Azerbaijani rose, building them together until the rose became deep, dark and almost velvety.

But I never wanted this to become simply a rose attar.

Underneath all those roses is a substantial amount of oud, with Cambodian oud showing itself particularly strongly.

That balance is what I love most about this Ghalia.

There is a lot of rose, and you know immediately that rose is at the heart of it. But the oud never disappears. Smell it closely and that dark woody character is always there, holding the roses from underneath.

Then comes the deer musk.

I didn’t want the musk to make Ghalia Ward animalic. Its role here is much quieter.

It rounds everything.

It gives the rose a beautiful powdery softness and brings the oud and florals together without asking for attention itself.

The result is a Ghalia that feels dark, velvety, powdery and powerful, yet remarkably smooth.

For me, this is one of the most successful Ghalias I have created because nothing needs to fight for space.

You smell the rose.

You smell the oud.

And somewhere between them, the musk quietly completes the picture.
