Malaysian Jusk

Malaysian Jusk began with one material I didn’t want to lose beneath anything else.

A very old, vintage Malaysian oud.

It has depth, age and that unmistakable character that only comes with time. But I didn’t want to build something dark and heavy around it.

I wanted to give this old oud another side.

Something greener. Fresher. Softer.

And that is where Jusk began.

The name comes from two materials at the heart of the composition:

Jasmine and musk.

The jasmine itself had already been macerated with deer musk, bringing the two materials together before they ever entered the final blend. I then added real musk grains, along with orris butter and ambergris, around the vintage Malaysian oud.

When you first wear Malaysian Jusk, what surprises me is the opening.

It’s green and fresh, with jasmine immediately bringing life to the darker character of the old oud.

But underneath that freshness, the vintage Malaysian oud is always there.

As the composition settles, the musk and orris begin to change its texture. There is softness and a subtle powderiness, while the ambergris gives the composition space and helps everything move from the skin.

What I find most interesting about Malaysian Jusk, however, is the way it seems to adapt to its surroundings.

Wear it in colder weather and the oud, musk and orris give you warmth.

Wear it in the heat and somehow the green jasmine character comes forward, keeping it fresh and comfortable rather than becoming heavy.

That was never something I wanted to force.

It is simply something I discovered while wearing it.

And perhaps that is what I love most about Malaysian Jusk.

It contains materials that we normally associate with richness and depth, vintage oud, deer musk, orris and ambergris, yet the composition still knows how to breathe.
